Newquay gets ready to go back to school!

The summer holidays are heading toward the end with mixed

feelings depending if you are a child or a parent, isn’t it funny when you

remember the kids side of it clearly but still can’t help turning into your own

parents!

Its that point of the holidays when you have had no money in

your wallet for weeks and you suddenly realise that the kids have either grown

out of their old uniform, half of it is faded or worst of all they are moving

up a school so a complete new set of outfits is required!  They also mention that they need a new pen,

and a pencil and a rubber, and the pencil case they had is missing, oh yes a

scientific calculator and compass set are essential too as the one’s they had

before somehow broke.

Now the problem here is that you live in Newquay so where do

you go?  The sad and honest truth is that

to get a good selection of school clothes you have to drive to Truro or go

online and get it delivered. Newquay is a holiday town and the shops are geared

up for this, unfortunately this doesn’t help local people when you need

practical things like Children’s clothes in general or school uniforms.

Sainsburys do offer a small range of School clothes but

stock can vary quite alot and as it is obviously not their main line of sales

so they must get credit for at least stocking some.  Peacocks are new to bank street and do sell

some school clothes but again not much and yet again the town really misses

Woolworths as they used to have a large school section upstairs (as well as the

house wares section and huge selection of toys that no-one has started doing in

the town since, why?) Those are your options I am afraid as far as clothes go,

if you need shoes however you are ok as you have the ever popular Clarkes shoe

shop that is always the first stop if you need a well made pair of sensible

school shoes.  We also have Shoezone who

sell a great range of shoes to fit any pocket, especially good if your kids

enjoy playtime a little too much and you don’t want £50 shoes to be wrecked on

the first day! Many of the schools locally allow children to wear trainers so

now you have a world of choice with all the surf shops in town selling a wide

range, you also have Studs Sports with sports and football trainers (ideal for

kids who love break time as they are made to take kicks so last longer than

normal shoes and look cool too!)

Stationary is another matter, WH Smiths always have a great

range of stationary in stock at all times, Sainsburys stock a great deal of

stationary, Penver Office Supplies at Chester Road is a really good local

office supply store that stock just about everything you could need for school

or office work and for any special projects, crape paper, cardboard etc. Etc.

Argos stock a large selection of Stationary sets and Bargain Books have a great

range of value for money stationary equipment and also have a large art section

if your children need any special art equipment, canvasses, drawing pads and

specialist paints all at great prices.

Finally if you need to get hold of Dictionaries or books

about particular subjects that your children are studying you will again be

able to find a huge range of these books at Bargain Books for some amazing

prices and also WH Smiths who can also order in specific books if you want

something they haven’t got.

Reading this back it seems strange that it is so easy to get

stationary in the town but childrens clothing is so hard to find, only very

recently has Glamtastic Baby opened so we can finally buy baby clothes and

equipment in the town, now we really need a good kids clothes shop to get

normal everyday clothes and school uniforms from.

Where do you get your school uniforms from?  Is there anything else obviously missing from

the town?
