Two
teenagers have been arrested after a fire at Treviglas school in Newquay today.
Firefighters managed to stop the fire spreading to the entire science block
after they were alerted to the fire just before midnight on wednesday.
Over 40 firefighters foought the blaze which severely damaged three rooms in
the maths and science block of the school. No-one was injured.
Devon and Cornwall Police have
arrested to 17-year-old youths on suspicion of burglary and arson.
Head teacher, Karen Ross, said
the school would remain closed for most pupils, although A-level students were
able to sit a planned examination.
It will open on Friday for
students in year 10, 11, 12 and 13, but year seven to 11 pupils have been asked
not to attend.
Staff have rescued students'
course work and the school's pet animals.
Forensic teams, including a
sniffer dog, have been on site to investigate the fire.
Chris Ruberry, the fire
investigation team's group manager, said the fire took hold very quickly but
they managed to stop it spreading although it had caused extensive damage
inside the science block.
We will give further updates as
we get them.

ha ha your comment just made me laugh irg. Yes good news they arrested people for this, trying to burn a school down isn't the smartest of moves.

ReportJust to clarify, I meant that it's great news that the people have been arrested, not that the school burnt down!

ReportThis is great news. You don't really hear about school fires anymore. The mid 90's seemed to be the hayday of people burning down schools.
