Monday 21st March 2011 saw the Mayor of Newquay Mrs Jill Bunt officially open Newquay's first mobility shop, Independent Living. The shop, located at the bottom of St Georges Rd, is owned by business man Tim Poat who has an in depth knowledge of mobility services.
This comes from working within the mobility services industry for many years. He has another very successful shop already running in Minehead, Somerset. Tim said "I was brought up in Newquay and my mother still lives in the town. I came to realise that there was a real need for a shop of this type in Newquay to service the requirements of the less abled community. Although it is a business, I aim to provide my customers with the best service possible before, during and after sales. It is important to me that people realise that we are a local, family run business that are here to help. ". He was rightly proud of the fact that his mobility shop in Minehead gets much of its business through recommendations. He continued "If someone wants to pop in and chat about any aspect of independent living my manager, Tim Peacock, will be more than happy to spend some time with them without obligation". "The shop has everything that is require for independent living, from Stairlifts to bathing aids and from rise and recline chairs to mobility scooters. The staff are very friendly and approachable. This shop has it all". We are main dealers for all the big suppliers such as Electric Mobility, Handicare, Pride, Classic Canes and many more.
Manager of the Newquay shop is Tim Peacock, he has several years experience in the mobility industry, with specialist knowledge of bathing aids and stair lifts.
Call in or phone and speak to Tim.
have had Parkinson's Disease for many years and to be honest getting to the shops is a major task. When I get to many mobility shops I feel like I am being pressured to buy the goods that are on offer so it came as a pleasant surprise when I visited the Independent living South West mobility shop to find a very pleasant but totally professional and well informed young man managing the shop. He was not pushy or patronising (which if you are a disabled person reading this you will understand why I am saying that). I wanted a mobility scooter and was not fobbed off with any scooter but was taken through the full range of scooters that would suit my body size and needs. Only when I was happy that I had the correct scooter was the deal struck. At no time did I feel pressurized into buying it. The scooter was delivered to my house the next day.
I cannot praise the service given in this mobility shop enough and would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you for the totally friendly yet professional service at Independent Living South West.

P.S. Before I confirmed the sale I was given first class instruction on how to use the mobility scooter which I found essential as I had never used one before.
