town Treviglas College and Tretherras School that are both very good schools
not only academically but also in terms of the many sporting opportunities that
they offer their pupils.
College are celebrating after achieving another massive leap in GCSE
results.
Once again the College has hugely exceeded the national average for the
percentage of students gaining at least five top A*-C grades in any subject and
has also exceeded the national benchmark figure for students achieving 5+ A*-C
grades, including English and Maths. Treviglas
celebrated mightily last year when it topped the county table with an
outstanding 83% but this has been yet another outstanding year for Treviglas
and the class of 2009 has leapt ahead to gain a record high of 94% 5+ A*-C
grades. The national average for 2008 was just 65.3%. The proportion of Treviglas students
achieving five A*-Cs, including English and Maths, also rose this year. In
2008, Treviglas smashed the national average figure of 47.6 per cent and this
year the number of students gaining that all-important benchmark has risen
again.
Ofsted paid tribute to the hugely
diverse and imaginative curriculum at Treviglas which leads to excellent
outcomes for all. Inpsectors also made special mention of the ‘outstanding’
leadership and management of the college as a whole and the concentration on
personal tutoring and mentoring, allowing all students to succeed. Treviglas College is the only 11-18 secondary
school in Cornwall to have been graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Treviglas
is also a highly successful Business & Enterprise Specialist College – the
first in Cornwall and now the Hub leader for the Specialist Schools and
Academies Trust in the South West.
School became a specialist technology college in 1997 and holds a variety
of awards including sportsmark, Investors in people, Investor in careers, and
Investors in work relates and enterprise learning. The school also gained Foundation Status in
2009 after a unanimous vote by the School governors. They have a fantastic record of Exam results
and also a huge range of extra curricular activities with numerous educational
and sporting clubs offering the pupils a huge range of opportunities to either
try to new things or to progress in their chosen fields.
