A presentation is taking place this Friday to celebrate a huge achievement by a group of people referred by Newquay Job Centre on their completion of an innovative course run by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Services's Phoenix Works team.

The presentation takes place at Newquay Community Fire Station on Friday 17 February.

The course, developed by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service in partnership with Cornwall Works and supported by Jobcentre Plus, provides support and training aiming to increase the employment opportunities of people who take part.

Participants were given the opportunity to gain an ASDAN level one qualification in Improving Own Learning and Performance, while taking part in a range of activities to promote teamwork, communication skills, raise confidence and aspirations.

The course included train the trainer, first aid, presentation and life skills.

CFRS chief fire officer Des Tidbury said: "I am encouraged to see how the Phoenix Works team has been able to use the work and reputation of the fire and rescue service to help this group of people develop useful new skills."
