NEWQUAY LADIES 5, NEWQUAY CELTIC 0:
Newquay Ladies are through to the Cornwall Cup semi-finals after a convincing win against Newquay Celtic in the quarter-final at Mount Wise on Sunday afternoon.
The goals came from Danni Barr, Kayle Lane, Danni Salts, Annie Richards and Courtney Ward.
This eagerly awaited clash kicked off in front of a fair size crowd and Newquay soon got into their stride, keeping the ball and using the width of the field, making the young Celtic side work hard. To their credit they worked hard for the entire game.
Newquay's management team changed the starting line-up for the game, giving starts to exciting youngsters Courtney Ward and Sophie Curry, and both put in impressive performances.
Newquay changed to a 3-5-2 to start the game and soon shots by C Richards and D Salts whistled past the post, keeping Celtic goalkeeper Angie Green busy.
Newquay opened the scoring after a lovely bit of skill by Chloe Richards, gliding past three players and drilling her cross to the unmarked Kayle Lane to score.
The second goal arrived when Richards' cross found the run of Salts and she thumped her header into the Celtic net to make it 2-0 before half-time.
Newquay lost experienced Becki Atkins with a twisted ankle but had a strong bench to cover this.
The second half mirrored the first with Newquay keeper Louise Galway a lonely figure.
Newquay's third goal came from Annie Richards who, after a deep cross from Kayle Lane, lifted a shot high but it crept inside the far post.
Then a stunning 30 yard drive by Danni Barr, who put in her best performance to date, nestled in the Celtic net to put Newquay 4-0 ahead.
Then the willing Courtney Ward ended Newquay's scoring to make it 5-0.
Celtic worked hard and can feel very proud of their performance but they met a very strong Newquay side who are playing some very good football.
Sophie Curry earned her player of the match award with a great performance in a holding midfield role.
Newquay now look forward to two cup semi-finals after reaching the Ambassador Cup semi final last week.
And they now have a league game against Chesham this Sunday at Mount Wise.
Newquay Ladies: Galway, Lake, Olde, Longsworth, Curry, Atkins, Salts, Lane, C, Richards, A,Richards, Ward, Badham, Barr, Potts, Ringham.
Player of match: Sophie Curry.

G BOYS DO BATTLE WITH ILLOGAN:
Godolphin travelled to Illogan for an eagerly await rematch after their exciting last encounter with the second placed league contenders.
The G boys kicked off and straight away showing they had come to play with good pace and attacking moves and almost immediately panicking the Illogan defence and making them put the ball out for a G throw.
Illogan broke well and made the G defence work but for the most part Oli and Freddie dealt with it, and then with and great run up the left wing Caleb passed the ball into the Illogan area which was received by Jenson on to Kyle, who tucked into the net, making the half-time score 1-0.
The second half was evenly fought with Liam working hard in midfield and regularly feeding Caleb and George up front, giving them some good chances to up the score but unfortunately they could not convert.
Illogan were also fighting back, desperately trying to even the score and a good attack found the G defence in a scramble and keeper jack making some great saves, keeping the Gs in it.
But with five minutes left Illogan upped the pace showing their strength and attacking the G defence again forcing man of the match keeper Jack to make a double save
But the G boys weren't finished and a great run for Liam and a quality pass to Caleb played him one on one with the illogan keeper but a scuffed kick shot wide of the goal.
Again Illogan attacked and their persistence paid off with a hard shot from distance finding the net for a 1-1 draw.
This was by far Godolphin's best and most exciting game of the season.

NEWQUAY GOLF CLUB:
Newquay Golf Club has been delighted with the international recognition the club has gained as the world has congratulated club member Mike Batty for being the winning caddy on the European Tour last week.
Meanwhile back at the ranch this week the Ladies teed up at Newquay Golf Club to play a 16 hole greensome in cold but dry weather.
Winning this event, on countback, was the combination of Chris Cummins and Pat Thom, with 31 points. In second place, also with 31 points was the pairing of Chris Smith and Meg Platton.
On Thursday the Senior Ladies played an 11 hole Stableford with a draw for mystery partners afterwards. The winners of this were Jill Batty and Anne Berryman with 36 points. Second place was taken by Gillian Choak and Trish Poyner with 33 points.
The individual Stableford prize went to Sue Williams with 19 points, while Chris Smith was second with 17 points.
The men played a somewhat rain affected round four of the Ron Lyon Trophy with the most impressive scoring coming from the hard working division two players.
In division one a paltry 32 points was good enough to win, a score carded by Sam Tyldesley and Shane Hickling. This low score was good enough to be two points clear of second placed Rob Randell and Mickey Towe, who edged out Jon Brierley and Charles Phillips on countback.
In division two Ted Prynn and Keith Entwhistle combined well for a super 36 points to win with Gethin Walters and Eric Thomas taking second place on countback with 33 points.
On Monday there were 27 seniors eager for the start of the David Keen Cup, an individual Stableford trophy competition in what threatened to be a wet day but in the event was a fine but chilly event.
After a valiant effort, last year's winner Owen Allen had to concede to Eric Thomas, playing off 19, with 33 points on countback over the last six holes, from Colin Ransley off 15 in second place also with 33.
Third place was taken by John Phillips off 14 with 32, also on a count back of the last six from Ivan Harris.
It was a day where the second and the sixth played the easiest and the 15th was the hardest and was not even parred by any player.
Yet again Dermot Leech achieved a two on the ninth with a very very close tap to deny him an ace. Dermot plays the par threes brilliantly.
Another two, also on the ninth, was by Ivan Harris and a third two went to John Phillips on the 16th.
Wednesday saw another bunch of hardy souls turn out for the roll up, yet again a chilly event.
Next Monday sees a 16 man team start the fixture season with our first match against Bowood Park. Fingers crossed for the weather.

Six-a-Side Football
CORNISH GUARDIAN NEWQUAY LEAGUE:
Group A
Cosmos 0 Porth Stores 2
Porth Stores started with Tom Berry making a rare outfield appearance and he seemed to make all the difference to a Porth side that sometimes lack a killer instinct. Tom struck the opening goal for Porth and in spite of rolling his ankle he was still able to find enough energy to set up Rob Harward for the second.
Porth held on to win the match and give themselves every chance of qualifying for the Cup.
Zodiac Interiors 3 Colan Old Boys 0
Zodiac Interiors were missing some of their key players, but they still had more than enough about them to brush aside a Colan Old Boys side that should have made more of the game. Lewis Hilton, Josh Harris and Jamie Shepperd were all on target in a win that moves Zodiac to the top of their group.
Group B
Dream Sessions 1 Ugandan Dollars 1
Both teams started confidently but it was Ugandan Dollars who took a well deserved first half lead through Gary Wheldon.
Ugandan Dollars could have wrapped the game up but they missed their chances and were left to rue them when Gary Roberts popped up to slot the ball home to level the match. The closing minutes saw both teams attack in search of a winner but neither side could find an opening and the match finished a draw.
The Sixes 0 MacDonalds 1
The Sixes were missing several of their more influential players and it showed as they were put to the sword by a MacDonalds side that are no push overs.
The Sixes had their chances but they couldn't take them, unlike Lee Truscott who struck the games only goal to send MacDonalds to the top of the table.
Group C
Mitchell 0 Firetrader 0
Both teams have struggled for goals this season and so it was little surprise that chances were going to be limited. Both teams gave it everything, but neither side seemed to have the cutting edge necessary to break each other down and inevitably the match finished goalless.
Tigers 3 Busby Babes 1
The Tigers made the most of facing an under strength Busby Babes side by taking an early lead through the impressive Tom Currah. Busby kept going and when they levelled through Lewis Hitlon it looked as though the match could go either way. That was until Tom Currah found some space and pounded the ball home to score his second. Tom completed his hat trick with a perfectly placed free kick to win the match for the Tigers and send them to the top of their group.
Group D
Real Sosobad 2 Raiders 0
Real Sosobad started strongly and were lucky to have all their players on the pitch after a spate of reckless challenges went unpunished.
Raiders had to do without their play maker Matt Hodgetts who limped off injured and it showed as his team fell behind shortly afterwards thanks a well placed strike from Dave Cloke.
Real started to dominate the match and they finally made sure of the points when Joel Jimenez struck to make it 2-0.
Group E
EEC 2 Goonhavern 0
EEC started slowly but they finally took the lead when Tom Currah smashed the ball past his two makers into the back of the net.
Goonhavern gave it their best to get back into the match but they couldn't get past the EEC defence and were eventually put out of their misery thanks to Tom Currah's second strike of the evening.
West Ham Egg and Chips 6 Darwins Dirty Dozen 1
New side West Ham Egg and Chips took everyone by surprise when they took an early lead through the talented Jaden Greenburg.
Jaden played like a man possessed scoring a total of four goals with his strike partner Damien Rice netting two.
Mike Rabone scored a consolation for Darwins but by then it was too late to make any real difference.

First game of the evening came the game between Colin Spence and Paul Wills both players shared the first two legs the Colin taking the next two to go into a 3-1 lead only for Paul to respond to snatch the fifth. But it was Colin who maintained the steady scoring to come out with a 5-3 win.

Next came Paul Wills and Jack Cook's turn to take the oche with the first four legs being shared it was Paul who took advantage in the next three for a 5-2 win aided by 18 and 17 dart legs and Jack hitting a 180.
Last game of the evening saw Ben Hawken up against Paul Clipston, once again the first two legs were shared, Ben then maintained some steady scoring to win the match 5-1.
With the evening seeing 9 x 180's and a 170 finish the darts are really starting to hot up. Currently we have Tony Coomber leading the highest finish with 170, Steve Shepherd has the shortest game withn 11 darts and Geoff Sutton hitting the most 180's so far on 14.
Thank you to the Rowing Club for its continued support and hospitality.
