The Newquay Safe partnership which helps to keeps the Newquay streets crime free has been awarded £99,000 from the Government.

The Home Office has confirmed Newquay Safe is to receive the money following a successful application to the Home Office's Community Action Against Crime Innovation Fund.

The money will pay for street marshals during peak season in the town.

Members of the Newquay Safe partnership team also met Baroness Helen Newlove whose husband Garry was battered to death by drunken teenagers outside their home in Warrington, Cheshire, in 2007, and she has now dedicated her life to making streets safer across the UK.

Launching her report as champion of safer more active communities, she said: "Newquay Safe has shown what can be done when a whole community pulls together.

"They recognised the problems they faced and have worked tirelessly to overcome them.

"This hard work in dealing with the impact that alcohol has in the community is delivering real results and I want other communities facing similar problems to be able to learn from their example."

Great news, they could have rounded it up to a nice 100,000 though couldn't they! :-)
